Denver, CO — The Bates Philanthropic Initiative (BPI) is proud to announce the 2026 cohort of BPI Scholars, a distinguished group of six Colorado high school students selected for their determination, resilience, and commitment to pursuing skills‑based career pathways. This year marks a milestone for the program, with a record number of applicants and more than $50,000 in scholarships awarded to support training and education in high‑demand fields across the state.
The 2026 BPI Scholars were chosen through a competitive, multi‑stage review process that evaluated academic promise, personal drive, and alignment with BPI’s mission to expand economic mobility for financially disadvantaged young adults. Finalists were reviewed throughout April, and the full cohort is now being celebrated for their achievements and potential.
“Each of these Scholars represents the future of Colorado’s workforce,” said Steve Bates, President and Co-Founder of BPI. “Their stories reflect the grit and ambition that define our community, and we are honored to invest in their journeys toward meaningful, sustainable careers.”
In addition to financial support, BPI Scholars gain access to a robust network of mentors, partner organizations, and wraparound services designed to help them thrive academically, professionally, and personally. Through BPI’s Associate Board and community partners, Scholars receive guidance on career readiness, financial literacy, and essential life skills that support long‑term success.
The 2026 cohort is joined by four returning 2025 BPI Scholars who earned an additional year of funding to complete their programs. These returning Scholars are already performing at exceptional levels, with achievements that include placement on their college Dean’s List, earning a civilian pilot certification, and advancing into competitive welding programs.
Since 2004, BPI has helped hundreds of students stay on the path toward opportunity through scholarships, grants, and community partnerships. The 2026 cohort continues this legacy, advancing BPI’s commitment to empowering young adults and strengthening Colorado’s skilled workforce.
