BPI Announces the Appointment of New Board Members

New Directors add leadership in educational nonprofits, technology and partner development

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

06/30/2025

Lafayette, CO.

The Bates Philanthropic Initiative (BPI), a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to aiding financially disadvantaged students in pursuing careers in skilled trades, announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors today. Christine Murray, a seasoned leader with extensive experience in both the financial services and nonprofit realms, joins Craig Foster, an entrepreneur and veteran technology executive. With these appointments, BPI's board now consists of seven members.

Murray brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles as a senior executive at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, First Western Trust, and Wells Fargo Private Bank. In addition to her financial expertise, she has served on the executive board of Teach for America Colorado, where she has demonstrated a commitment to expanding access to education and strengthening Colorado's workforce.

Foster’s background is rooted in nearly thirty years in the healthcare technology sector before he launched his own business focused on teaching children coding, robotics, and CAD/3D printing. He is an outspoken advocate for incorporating STEM education into skilled trades, actively engaging with local business groups and school districts to promote technical education.

Steve Bates, President of BPI, praised both new board members for their dedication to educational and nonprofit initiatives. "BPI's mission to support Colorado's financially disadvantaged young adults in pursuing meaningful careers has been significantly strengthened today," Bates stated. "Chris and Craig are strong, creative leaders who bring new perspectives and connections that will enhance our efforts and increase our impact."

The addition of Murray and Foster to BPI's board reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to fostering opportunities for young adults in Colorado, particularly those who face financial barriers in accessing education and career resources

About BPI: BPI (the Bates Philanthropic Initiative) is a Colorado registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We firmly believe that everyone deserves access to world-class education, regardless of their background or socio-economic status. For many financially disadvantaged young people in Colorado, a four-year university experience is not a good fit. Often, they lack the awareness of other skills-based pathways available to them. That's where we come in! We help address the barriers to career and technical education by destigmatizing skills-based careers, providing scholarships, and funding nonprofit partners that support students through the journey from high-school, through post-secondary training, to their first job. We are dedicated to helping Colorado students overcome their obstacles and achieve their personal and professional goals.
